Steel manufacturer ArcelorMittal South Africa (AMSA) has named former Anglo American Platinum CEO and current Basil Read CEO Neville Nicolau and Hulamin board member Lungile Cele as independent nonexecutive directors, with effect from September 10, 2015, and January 4, 2016, respectively.

Nicolau, who holds a BTech in Mining Engineering from the University of Johannesburg and an MBA from the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business previously held the positions of COO and CEO at Anglo American, as well as COO and executive director of AngloGold Ashanti.

He has over 35 years’ working experience in the mining sector, which includes holding various technical, management and executive positions.

Nicolau would chair AMSA’s safety, health and environmental committee.

Cele, who holds a BCom degree from the University of Fort Hare and various postgraduate tax qualifications from the University of Natal, is the founder and former CEO of Tax Solutions prior to its merger with Garach and Garach Accountants in 2011.

She currently holds various board memberships, including that at Hulamin.

AMSA further announced the appointment of Jacob Modise as a member of the audit and risk committee, with effect from September 10.
