Satellite operator and services provider Avanti Communications and pan-African telecommunications solutions provider iWayAfrica have signed a deal to provide satellite broadband services across sub-Saharan Africa.

The new master distributor contract will allow iWayAfrica to provide high-speed satellite broadband services for consumers and enterprises across the continent using Avanti’s recently deployed HYLAS 4 Ka-band satellite.

“We are delighted to extend our partnership with iWayAfrica and have them sign as Avanti’s first master distributor for HYLAS 4,” says Avanti CEO Kyle Whitehill.

iWayAfrica has a presence in over 44 African countries, and already deploys Avanti’s Ka-band services in Eastern and Southern Africa through the HYLAS 2 satellite.

HYLAS 4, which was launched in April, will extend iWayAfrica’s Ka-band offering into new countries across West and Central Africa with commercial services to be offered this month.

“With HYLAS 4, we are excited to take Avanti’s high-speed service plans to West and Central Africa for the first time. “This is a natural extension of our existing relationship and we are actively engaged with our partner network to bring these services on line, as well as extend our reach in the region even further to new partners and new territories,” iWayAfrica parent company Gondwana International Networks Group CEO Mathew Welthagen says.

The latest high-throughput satellite has 64 Ka-band spot beams that cover 36 countries and which extends the existing coverage across Europe, East and Southern Africa.

HYLAS 4 also has four steerable beams, which can provide highly flexible capacity across Africa, Latin America or Europe.

iWayAfrica plans to provide affordable high-speed satellite broadband to connect homes, small and medium-sized enterprises, schools and enterprises across sub-Saharan Africa.
