Except for one car of Japanese origin, all of the 2014 WesBank/South African Guild of Motoring Journalists (SAGMJ) Car of the Year finalists hail from European brands.

The announcement of the nine finalists follows a voting process by a 30-member SAGMJ jury, whittling down an original list of 40 semifinalists.

The nine 2013-model finalists for the WesBank/SAGMJ Car of the Year are the 2013 Audi A3 Sportback 1.4T FSI Manual; the Jaguar F-TYPE 3.0 V6 S; the Lexus IS 350 F-Sport; the Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG; the Peugeot 208 GTI; the Porsche Cayman S; the Renault Clio 4 66 kW Turbo Dynamique; the Volkswagen Golf 7 1.4 TSI 90 kW Comfortline DSG; and the Volvo V40 D3 Geartronic Excel.

The next step in the process of choosing a winner is a two-day evaluation session to be held in Gauteng, in January.

The winner will be revealed in February.
