Anglo appoints new head of copper as MacKenzie exits
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – London- and Johannesburg-listed Anglo American has appointed group head of mining Hennie Faul as CEO of its copper unit, replacing John MacKenzie, effective October.
MacKenzie resigned from Anglo American after 24 years – the last four as CEO of the copper unit – to pursue other opportunities.
Anglo American base metals and minerals CEO Duncan Wanblad, to whom Faul would report, said that Faul had 26 years of deep technical and operational experience under his belt, nine years of which were at Anglo American.
“I expect his leadership and breadth of expertise will enable us to achieve sustainably higher returns from our competitively positioned assets,” group CEO Mark Cutifani stated.
Last month, Cutifani unveiled a new structure for Anglo American, consolidating its ten business units into six groups: Kumba Iron Ore, led by Norman Mbazima; Iron Ore Brazil, led by Paulo Castellari, Coal (metallurgical and thermal), led by Seamus French; Base, led by Wanblad; Platinum, led by Chris Griffith and De Beers, of which Philippe Mellier is the CEO.
