Project Description
The project involves the construction of large-scale ammonia and urea fertiliser production plants.
The fertiliser plant will be built in Garabogaz, a city on the coast of the Caspian Sea, in the north-west region of the country. Using Turkmenistan’s abundant natural gas resources as feedstock, the plant will have the capacity to produce 2 000 t/d of ammonia and 3 500 t/d of urea supergranules.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), working jointly with Turkish construction company GAP Insaat Yatirim ve Dis Tiscaret, and Mitsubishi Corporation, has been awarded the contract to build the ammonia and fertiliser plants.
The contract will cover the fertiliser plant’s design, equipment procurement and construction, as well as infrastructure improvements to the surrounding area, such as the construction of roads and temporary piers and fertiliser product shipment facilities.
MHI and Mitsubishi Corporation will be responsible for the design, manufacture, procurement and commissioning of the plant, while GAP will be responsible for all construction works, including detail engineering and design. Mitsubishi Corporation will execute this contract with the cooperation of Mitsubishi Corporation Machinery.
