Airline Airlink will start twice-weekly direct Cape Town to Mauritius flights from October 2, with bookings now open for flights on this route.

The new route will be Airlink’s first to the Indian Ocean island.

The airline will operate its new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft on the new Mauritius service, which can accommodate 124 passengers, with 12 in business class and 112 in economy class.

Mauritius is popular with tourists and has become a key investment and trade centre.

“Our new E195-E2 aircraft makes it possible for Airlink to connect Cape Town with Mauritius. Cape Town is also an important source market and connecting hub for leisure and business travel wanting to travel to the island while avoiding the hassle and additional time connecting in Johannesburg,” said Airlink CEO de Villiers Engelbrecht.

Airlink’s schedule for the route is being designed so that leisure travellers will be able to maximise their holiday time and for corporate travellers to enhance their business itineraries without disruptive middle-of-the-night or pre-dawn departures or arrivals.

Airlink customers are also allowed to take 15 kg of sporting equipment in addition to the 20 kg free luggage allowance for discounted economy class tickets, and the 30 kg allocated for full-fare economy travellers.
