From Creamer Media in Johannesburg, this is the Real Economy Report.

Sashnee Moodley:

Mining equipment manufacturer AGC has built its largest raise bore machine that will be exported to an industrial and mining services company in India. Schalk Burger has the details.

Schalk Burger:

The RM12 raise bore machine can drill holes up to 6 m in diameter, has 500 kNm of torque, 5 800 kN of thrust and a 380 kW DC drive.

The RM12s have automated diagnostics, as well as self-drilling, remote control and remote monitoring as additional options.

AGC aims to sell these machines to mines to enable them to immediately undertake drilling for ventilation shafts, escape raises, ore passes, slot raises and other vertical or sub-vertical openings.

This provides mines with greater control over their schedules, reduces delays and removes their need to rely on contractors to do these projects.

AGC hydraulics workshop manager Henry Leech talks about the projects that the company's machines are operating on, as well as some details about the new machine.
