As professional technical and management support services provider Aecom moves to expand and strengthen its footprint in Africa and further develop long-term business in the region, the company announced the appointment of a CEO for Africa and MD for South Africa.

Aecom South Africa chairperson Advocate Kessie Naidu said on Friday that Aecom’s former chief of global programmes James Thompson would head up its Africa operations.

In addition to his role as Aecom’s COO for Africa, Tim ter Haar would assume the role of MD for South Africa.

Thompson would be tasked with working with clients across the continent, building on his background in infrastructure projects, government services and facility management, while ter Haar would focus on growing Aecom’s South African operations through the firm’s client management programme and expanded service offerings.

The broad-based black economic-empowerment Level 3 firm has been active in Africa for nearly a century and boasted about 1 900 employees across South Africa, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Libya, Mozambique and Nigeria, besides others.
