University Of Cape Town

The University of Cape Town is a public research university located in Cape Town, South Africa. It is the oldest university in South Africa, founded in 1829 as the South African College, and was granted full university status in 1918. The institution is situated on the slopes of Devil's Peak and Table Mountain, with its main campus in Rondebosch. UCT is consistently ranked as Africa's leading university and is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. The university comprises six faculties offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across humanities, science, engineering, health sciences, commerce and law. It has an enrolment of approximately 29 000 students and employs around 5 000 staff members. UCT is known for its research output, particularly in health sciences, social sciences and African studies, and hosts several research units and centres of excellence. The university has produced five Nobel laureates, including Archbishop Desmond Tutu and authors J M Coetzee and Max Theiler. Its Graduate School of Business is one of Africa's leading business schools and regularly features in global rankings. UCT plays a significant role in shaping policy debates and contributing expertise on African economic development, governance and social issues.
