Fetakgomo Tubatse Special Economic Zone (FTSEZ).

Location
An area covering about 1 000 ha and hosting the world’s largest deposits of platinum and chrome, in Sekhukhune district, Limpopo, South Africa.

Project Description
The FTSEZ forms part of the South African government’s Special Economic Zone programme aimed at enhancing the country’s manufacturing and export capabilities while attracting foreign direct investment.

The development will be completed in phases.

Phase 1 will comprise 316 ha, which is reserved predominantly for light and heavy industrial use and other hydrogen energy related uses.

Phases 2 and 3 will be developed in line with market demands and will include renewable energy, heavy industry and additional light industry space, as well as mixed-use and residential projects.

More than six tenants have already committed to setting up operations for Phase 1 implementation in chrome-related beneficiation, hydrogen energy components assembly, electric vehicles, solar energy and pharmaceuticals.

Potential Job Creation
About 8 000 jobs are expected to be created in the short term. Over ten years, 20 000 jobs are expected to be created.

Capital Expenditure
There are currently 46 companies in the investment pipeline with a combined investment value of about R52.6-billion.

Latest Developments
South African Trade, Industry and Competition Minister Parks Tau designated the FTSEZ in terms of Sec 24(1) of the Special Economic Zones Act No 16 of 2014 through a gazette issued on May 22, 2026.
