Tharisa's underground transition remains on time and within budget, with the Apollo portal on track to deliver first run-of-mine ore in the fourth quarter of the 2026 financial year and reach steady-state output of 255 000 t a month by the third quarter of the 2029 financial year. Tharisa Minerals has drawn down on an $80-million underground transition term loan, and in June 2026 secured a R750-million asset revolving finance facility from Nedbank, with an accordion option to R1.25-billion, to fund the specialised underground mining fleet.
Apollo and Orion set to extend mine life beyond 60 yearsThe dual Apollo and Orion underground complexes, developed using bord-and-pillar mining under a phased portal strategy, carry transitional capital of $547-million over ten years and an internal rate of return above 25%. Openpit mining continues alongside development and is expected to deplete by the 2035 financial year, while Orion targets first ore in the 2031 financial year, extending Tharisa's operations by more than 60 years. Cementation Africa remains the underground development contractor under a five-year alliance model.
Existing plants to sustain production profileThe Genesis and Voyager processing plants, supported by the Vulcan ultrafine chrome recovery plant, offer run-of-mine capacity of 5.6-million tonnes a year, expected to maintain Tharisa's current PGM and chrome concentrate output as underground production ramps up.
