Project Description
The project entails the development of a 2.3 ha manufacturing facility for actinium-225 production. Actinium-225 is a high-energy alpha-emitting radioisotope with a ten-day half-life, used in targeted alpha therapy to destroy cancer cells.
The manufacturing facility is expected to be the world’s largest once complete, and is expected to increase global actinium-225 production capacity twentyfold.
Potential Job Creation
The project is expected to create about 225 full-time jobs in Philadelphia, as well as about 500 construction jobs.
Capital Expenditure
$450-million.
The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development has provided a $10-million grant to help secure the investment.
Planned Start/End Date
TerraPower Isotopes broke ground on the project on May 6, 2026. A completion date has not been confirmed.
