Zuma to lead SA delegation to the SADC Troika Summit in Tanzania
President Jacob Zuma will lead a South African delegation to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Extra-Ordinary Troika Summit to be hosted in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on January 10.
The Ministerial Committee of the Organ Troika discussions would precede the Extra-Ordinary Troika Summit and these discussions were expected to inform the decisions of the summit.
As the outgoing chair of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, South Africa will participate in the Organ Troika Summit, which will consider reports on the recent political and security developments in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Madagascar.
Tanzania is the current chair of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, with South Africa and Namibia completing the troika, while Mozambique will participate as chair of SADC.
The Organ Troika Summit and the chair of SADC will provide an opportunity for the heads of State and government to be appraised of the latest developments in relation to the implementation of the decisions following the last SADC Extra-Ordinary Troika Summit of heads of State and government, held in December, in Dar es Salaam.
The Department of International Relations and Cooperation stated that South Africa had a vested interest in seeing the regional political and security situation improve, which would improve the quality of life of South Africans and SADC citizens in general.
President Zuma will be accompanied by International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.
