World crude steel production up 1.7% in July

Global crude steel production by the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) increased by 1.7% year-on-year to 156.6-million tonnes in July.

China produced 85.2-million tonnes of steel in July, a 5% year-on-year increase.

India’s production increased by 1.7% year-on-year to 9.2-million tonnes, while Japan’s output decreased by 0.4% year-on-year to 8.4-million tonnes.

Africa’s crude steel production decreased by 15.1% year-on-year, from just over 1.2-million tonnes to just over one-million tonnes. South Africa’s production decreased by 13.2% to 464 000 t in July.
