Woodside exports first gas from A$5bn North Ranking project
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The A$5-billion North Rankin redevelopment project, offshore Western Australia, has been completed and has exported its first gas to the Karratha gas plant.
Peter Coleman, the CEO of North Rankin operator Woodside, said on Monday that achieving start-up as planned, and on budget, demonstrated the company’s ability to execute complex projects on a global scale. “Start-up is a major milestone given the complexities of integrating a new 65 000 t facility next to an existing offshore production platform,” he said.
The North Rankin redevelopment project involved the construction and installation of a second platform, dubbed North Rankin B, and the modification and refurbishment of the existing North Rankin A platform.
Located some 135 km offshore Karratha, the new platform would enable the recovery of around five-trillion cubic feet of low pressure reserves from the North Rankin and Perseus fields, and would extend the field’s life to around 2040.
“The redevelopment maximises the value of Australia’s largest operating oil and gas project by extending the resource life and supporting the North West Shelf project’s onshore gas commitments,” said Coleman.
The North Rankin redevelopment project is jointly owned by Woodside, BHP Billiton, BP, Chevron, Japan Australia LNG and Shell.
