JSE-listed Wesizwe Platinum has appointed Zou Long as its new CEO and as executive director as of August 2.

Interim CEO Zhimin Li will vacate this position with immediate effect.

Long holds a master’s degree in engineering and has 24 years of experience in the mining industry, comprising management and mining experience. He has served as the group deputy GM and group GM at the Chinese diversified miner Jinchuan Group’s No 2 mine.

Long has also held various critical senior positions within Jinchuan, including serving as a mining engineer at copper/cobalt miner Jinchuan Congo Mining in the Democratic Republic of Congo and at nickel miner Albidon in Zambia.

The Wesizwe board said it was satisfied that Long had the necessary management experience, skills and qualifications to serve as CEO.
