JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Wescoal subsidiary Wescoal Mining has signed an agreement with Mintirho Mining to buy the Intibane Phase 2 mining right, located adjacent to Wescoal’s Intibane colliery, in the Witbank coalfield, for R7.98-million in cash.

The acquisition would enable Wescoal to extend the life of Intibane by a further 2.25-million tons and the life-of-mine to the end of 2016, while the colliery’s existing mine infrastructure would be used to mine the reserve.

The deal remained subject to the approval of an environmental management programme and the unconditional transfer of the mining right by the mineral resources Minister.
