South Africa’s National Development Plan (NDP) 2030 has been given the thumbs up by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).

WBCSD president Peter Bakker said the plan was recognised as a catalyst to drive action towards a more sustainable country.

“Implementation of South Africa’s NDP by 2030 is critical to long-term sustainability in [the country],” he said, adding that robust partnerships between government, business and civil society needed to be “grounded in action”.

“We need action to solve the sometimes seemingly overwhelming social, economic and environ- mental challenges we face,” added Bakker.

South Africa had also been invited to engage in the WBCSD’s ‘Changing Pace Report’, as the country – with its unique economic and social make-up – had a key role to play in the conversation and outcomes surrounding the report.
