Emerging African phosphate explorer and developer Kropz says the Water Tribunal has dismissed an appeal against the granting of an integrated water-use licence (WUL) for the Elandsfontein project.

Following the granting of the WUL by the Department of Water and Sanitation in April 2017, an appeal was lodged by a group calling themselves the West Coast Environmental Protection Association in June 2017.

The appeal was heard, over four sittings, from October 2019 to February this year.

“Elandsfontein is a world-class operation, conducted in accordance with internationally accepted sustainable mining principles, with due and proper consideration for the environment. We are delighted that this matter has finally been dealt with," says Kropz CEO Mark Summers.

The phosphate producer notes that the Water Tribunal is expected to provide written reasons for its decision later this year.
