Name of the project
Wa gold project.

Location
Ghana.

Client
Azumah Resources.

Project Description
The project is based on a conventional carbon-in-leach gold plant, located adjacent to Azumah’s flagship 1.4-km-strike Kunche deposit, which will treat 1.2-million tonnes a year of primary ore and up to 1.8-million tonnes a year of softer oxide and transition ore.

Ore will be sourced from the staged mining of a series of shallow openpits at Kunche, Bepkong and Aduane, all in the Wa Lawra district, with ore from Julie and Collette, in the Wa East area, trucked on mostly public roads to the Kunche plant.

Latest Developments
Azumah Resources has reported a 65% increase in the ore reserve at its Wa gold project, taking the reserve estimate to more than one-million ounces.

“The Wa gold project is now transformed into an extremely compelling development opportunity, without even considering the evolving prospect of underground mining presented by the recent discovery of high-grade, below-pit mineralisation at Kunche and Bepkong,” Azumah MD Stephen Stone has said.

“The . . . project is now well primed to be Ghana’s next commercial-scale gold mine, with mining leases already granted, environmental permits well advanced, grid power to site and the strong support of the Ghana government.”

Stone has said that the remainder of 2019 will be dedicated to finalising a feasibility study on the project, and preparing for its development.

The feasibility study being considered is based on an average 107 000 oz of gold production a year with a mine life estimate of 11 years.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
