JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-listed Vast Resources has started zinc production at its Manaila polymetallic mine, providing the Romania-based project with a second commodity and revenue stream, in addition to copper.

The company has produced 50 t of concentrate since the first week of September and is targeting a production rate of 150 t/m from October onwards.

Further, Vast has steadily increased its zinc concentrate grade from 18% to 35%, averaging a grade of 27% in the first month of production.

The reprocessing of copper tailings to extract zinc content is currently under way.

"Our Manaila mine is going from strength to strength. The commercial production of a zinc concentrate, coupled with the high-quality copper concentrate that we are now producing, will directly enhance profitability through both the increase in revenue and the reduction in costs per tonne,” commented CEO Roy Pitchford.
