TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Vancouver-based explorer Ultra Lithium on Monday announced that geophysical crews have mobilised to Serbia to start Phase 2 exploration work on its lithium and boron properties.

Ultra said it was following up on positive results from the Phase 1 programme at the 643 km2 Valjevo East and Blace concessions.

It had also commissioned Beijing Explo-Tech Engineering to conduct comprehensive gridded audiomagnetotelluric (AMT) and gravity surveys over the Kragujevic, Tnarva, Koceljeva, Preljina and Ladveci concessions.

The AMT survey would average one point per square kilometre for a total of 459 AMT points. In conjunction with the AMT survey, the company planned to complete a 120 km2 gravity survey over the Valjevo East and Blace concessions to complement Phase 1 results.

The data would be interpreted to refine basin geometry and identify potential lithium- and boron-bearing ores. The geophysical surveys were part of the Phase 2 exploration programme, which included geological mapping, outcrop sampling and soil sampling.

Reconnaissance rock and soil sampling work conducted in the first phase of the programme returned inconclusive results, owing to the thick cover sequences that infill the basins at Valjevo East and Blace. With the additional geophysical surveys, the company's geologists would be able to conduct target-specific sampling programmes in the second phase.

Ultra was in the process of selecting a drilling company after it had put out a request for tenders for a 3 000 m drilling campaign at the Valjevo East and Blace concessions, where high-priority targets were identified.
