Turkish Airlines on Thursday launched its third South African route, an inaugural route into Durban’s King Shaka International Aiport, the province’s treasury said.

The airline – Turkey’s national flag carrier – launched its first flight on Thursday from Durban, travelling to Istanbul.

The new route kicked off the airline’s weekly schedule which would see trips on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

KwaZulu-Natal premier Senzo Mchunu welcomed the launch: “This inaugural route represents a huge milestone in creating closer links between Turkey and the province of KwaZulu-Natal strengthening us as a gateway into Southern Africa.”

“The new route will work towards strengthening economic ties between our two countries,” he said.
