TruckStore’s newly launched West Rand facility offers greater flexibility, customer focus
From Creamer Media in Johannesburg, this is the Real Economy Report.
Sashnee Moodley:
Daimler Trucks and Buses Southern Africa’s used truck business TruckStore has opened its new facility in Krugersdorp, Gauteng. The new facility aims to strengthen TruckStore’s national footprint and complements its existing Centurion head office operation, with both sites remaining fully operational to enhance accessibility, flexibility and customer service. Sabrina Jardim tells us more.
Sabrina Jardim:
Originally launched globally in 2001, TruckStore has evolved into Daimler Truck’s trusted used-vehicle division. South Africa became the first market outside of Europe to establish a TruckStore operation in 2012, laying the foundation for a strong national network.
The West Rand facility now positions TruckStore at the heart of Gauteng’s growing used-truck hub, close to key transport corridors, mining regions, and industrial centres, bringing the business closer to its customers and the market it serves.

Sabrina Jardim:
During the launch of the facility in May, Daimler Truck Southern Africa (DTSA) president and group CEO Maretha Gerber discussed some of the features of the new facility, highlighting that the open space affords the company more flexibility in positioning its truck across the premises, which are categorised according to model years and mileage.
She told Engineering News that customers could immediately be taken to a section of the facility with the vehicles that best match the customers’ budget and requirements, rather than having to browse through all the vehicles at the site.

Sabrina Jardim:
Gerber described the company’s Centurion facility, which was introduced in 2012, as a corporate space that has evolved over time, catering to customers more comfortable with a corporate environment.
Hence, she said the company’s expanded footprint on the N14 provides TruckStore with an opportunity to reach a different customer base, particularly for smaller businesses looking to invest in used trucks.
She said the new facility offers a customer-friendly and flexible environment.
Gerber also highlighted the saturated used truck market in South Africa, noting that the sector has about 20 original-equipment manufacturers competing in the space, emphasising the importance of understanding customer needs.
Gerber also emphasised the importance of establishing partnerships with the company’s customers and network.
