Project Description
The 765 kV portfolio of build projects consists of transmission lines and substations across four provinces, from Mpumalanga, through the Free State and the Northern Cape to the Western Cape.
The portfolio is split into two schemes – projects north of Hydra substation and projects south of Hydra substation.
This project will introduce a transformation capability of 10 000 MVA and 1 600 km of 765kV transmission lines once completed.
Value
The total cost of the projects included in this plan, up to and including 2021, is estimated at R 171-billion in nominal terms.
About R4-billion is for customer-related projects, R27-billion is for generation integration projects and an estimated R140-billion is for reliability projects.
The costs outlined are described as high-level estimates that could change.
Duration
The expansion plan will continue to 2021.
Latest Developments
Eskom has reported that 6 000 MVA of the planned 10 000 MVA has been commissioned and is in commercial operation.
Further, 1 243 km of 1 600 km of line has been built, with 501 km energised at 765 kV and a further 300 km energised at 400 kV.
