Project Description
The project proposes to construct a 1 500-km-long rail line, which will connect Botswana’s Mmamabula coalfield to the Port of Walvis Bay, in Namibia, with a possible connection to South Africa’s Waterberg coalfield. The project will include an extended commodity terminal at Walvis Bay port. The coal terminal will be configured to handle about 65-million tonnes of coal a year

The project is estimated at N$100-billion.
Duration
Construction of the TKR project will run from 2014 to 2018.
Latest Developments
A bilateral agreement for the construction of the TKR has been signed between Namibia and Botswana.
The process to obtain financing from the private sector to secure the development has started.
