TNPA launches tender process for Richards Bay terminal operator
Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for a suitable terminal operator at the Port of Richards Bay.
The operator will be responsible for financing, refurbishing, operating, maintaining and transferring a liquid bulk terminal specialising in bunker and associated fuels.
The contract will span 25 years.
Issuing the RFP will assist TNPA in responding to potential investors in the bunkering industry, the State-owned ports utility says in a release on September 15.
“The process demonstrates that we are one step closer to our commitment to reposition the Port of Richards Bay as a dry-bulk and liquefied natural gas hub through the KwaZulu-Natal Logistics Hub Programme,” notes Richards Bay port manager Captain Dennis Mqadi.
TNPA will host a briefing to explain its requirements on October 4.
RFP documents can be accessed on the National Treasury’s e-tender publication portal – www.etender.gov.za – or at www.transnet.net and the deadline for submissions is December 13.
