Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) was considering the way forward after having received no bids for the design, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of a ship repair facility at the Port of Richards Bay, despite vast initial interest expressed by the market.

“Despite the fact that 13 companies bought the tender document and nine attended the site visit on July 19, no tenders were received by the closing date of September 25,” TNPA CEO Tau Morwe said.

The ports authority was working to establish why no bids had been received for the project.

The ship repair facility, which would be transferred back to TNPA after 25 years, would be aimed at the repair of Cape size vessels.
