JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – As Ncondezi Energy continues its transition from a mining company into an energy producer, three directors, namely Graham Mascall, Mark Trevan and Nigel Sutherland, have stepped down as nonexecutive directors.

“The business has made significant progress [over the past three-and-a-half years] and their mining knowledge and commercial expertise has been much appreciated in guiding Ncondezi as it has developed its thermal coal deposit into an exciting power development story," Ncondezi nonexecutive chairperson Michael Haworth said in a statement on Monday.

Ncondezi Energy, formerly Ncondezi Coal, initiated a board restructuring last year, as part of its transformation from a coal mining company to an integrated coal mine and power developer, and a narrowed focus on the Southern African energy sector.

Last year, the group appointed two former State-owned power utility Eskom senior managers, Peter O’Connor and Christiaan Schutte, as nonexecutive directors, following the resignation of Colin Harris from the board. COO Paul Venter took over as CEO and executive director after Nigel Walls resigned a year ago.
