PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Mining services provider Thiess has had its turnkey mining contract at the Lake Vermont coal mine, in Queensland, extended for another three years until 2021.

The contract extension was expected to deliver some A$1.3-billion in revenue, parent company Cimic said on Friday.

“This extension at Lake Vermont reflects the strong performance of our operational and technical teams and their daily commitment to working with our clients in a safe and productive manner,” added Thiess MD Michael Wright.

The company was contracted in 2007 to build the Lake Vermont mine infrastructure, which was expanded in 2012 to increase production. Since 2008, Thiess has performed the turnkey mining operations at Lake Vermont, including mine planning, operations, maintenance, processing and loading of the product.

The mine, owned by the Jellinbah Group, has a near eight-million-tonne-a-year production capacity.
