JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Follow up flotation testwork at Aim-listed Bushveld Minerals’ P-Q Zone deposit, in Limpopo, has demonstrated improved recoveries and scope for the production of a premium elevated phosphate (P2O5) concentrate, the company said on Thursday.
The company stated that initial tests in the flotation of the phosphate had shown that salable concentrate grades of 33.25% P2O5 could be achieved, with the recently completed testwork showing that these grades could be further improved to 36% to 39% of P2O5 with overall recoveries of 53.33%, as opposed to 42.06% previously.
“The flotation testwork on the phosphate mineralisation within the hanging wall of the P-Q Zone helps us identify options to monetise the resource and improve the economics of the overall project.
“We are also pleased to see recoveries exceeding 50% and a premium 37.86% P2O5 concentrate grade in this testwork, which bode well for the resource modelling already under way,” Bushveld CEO Fortune Mojapelo commented.
He stated that the company would now focus on the next steps for this potential [phosphate] resource.
These next steps would include ensuring that the mineralsation was robust enough to be modelled into a Joint Ore Reserves Committee-compliant resource – of which the company remained confident – as well as proving that the resource could be beneficiated into a saleable product with sufficient recoveries and determining that the overall economics of the project were positive, Mojapelo explained.
