PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Sumatra Copper & Gold has poured its first gold at the Tembang project, in Indonesia.

The maiden gold bar weighed 119 oz and comprised gold and silver recovered from the leach circuit. The gold was sourced predominantly from low-grade ore feed as part of the commissioning process to test the crushing and carbon-in-leach circuit.

Plant commissioning was expected to continue until October, with higher-grade run-of-mine ore starting to be fed to the plant as testing activities were concluded.

Sumatra MD David Fowler said on Tuesday that the first gold pour was achieved eight weeks ahead of schedule and only nine months after construction resumed at Tembang.

“The handover from the project’s construction team to operations has been successfully accomplished following the achievement of a steady-state processing rate at 90% of nameplate capacity of 45 t/h over the past week,” Fowler said.

Tembang was expected to produce about 33 000 oz/y of gold and 345 000 oz/y of silver at a cash operating cost of $470/oz, once in full operation.
