Tekeze hydropower project

Name of the project and location
Tekeze hydropower project, Ethiopia.

Project description
The project will involve the construction of a concrete hydropower dam, with a capacity of 300 MW on the Tekeze river, a tributary of the Nile system.

The dam will be 185 m high 10 m higher than China’s Three Gorges dam.

The project is believed to be the largest cooperative between China and an African country.

Value
$350-million.

Duration
The project started in 2002 and is expected to be completed by the end 2007.
