Project Description
In an effort to reduce its greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions, Kinross is proceeding with the development of a photovoltaic solar power plant at the Tasiast mine, with a power generation capacity of 34 MW and a battery storage facility of 18 MW.

The plant is expected to reduce GHG emissions by up to 50 000 t/y, or an estimated 530 000 t over the life-of-mine, which could save about 180-million litres of fuel over the same period.

Planned Start/End Date
Site activities, such as geotechnical drilling for solar panel foundations, is expected to start in the second quarter of 2022, with the plant scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2023.
