Sylvania secures mining rights for three properties
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – London-listed Sylvania Platinum has secured the mining rights from the Department of Mineral Resources to mine platinum-group metals (PGMs), iron-ore, vanadium and heavy minerals from three of 71%-owned subsidiary Hacra Mining and Exploration’s sites.
The low-cost PGM producer said the permits covered mining on the group’s Cracouw 391 LR, Aurora 397 and Harriets Wish 393 LR farms, in the Northern limb of the Bushveld complex.
The mining right for the iron-ore, vanadium and heavy minerals would now be transferred to Ironveld subsidiary HW Iron, in terms of a March 2012 agreement for the acquisition by the former Mercury Recycling, now called Ironveld, of the Ironveld Group from Sylvania.
The transfer application would start when the mining right was executed on March 19, and would include the approval of the environmental-impact assessment.
