JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Platinum-group metals producer Sylvania Platinum on Tuesday said it was reviewing strategies to make up the loss of 900 oz of platinum production following two Section 54 stoppages at Samancor’s operations in February.

Following an underground accident at Samancor's Mooinooi host mine on February 10, and an underground incident at Samancor’s Millsell host mine on February 27, the Department of Mineral Resources issued stoppage orders, impacting on the feed to Sylvania's Mooinooi run-of-mine plant and stopping all current arisings to its Millsell plant.

The work stoppages were lifted on March 8.

During the stoppage period, Sylvania's other operations on the eastern limb of the Bushveld Complex continued with production as planned.
