The project involves the rehabilitation and expansion of water supply and sanitation systems in Sumbe and the development of a comprehensive national rural water and sanitation programme. It comprises water supply infrastructure; sanitation, comprising the rehabilitation of sewerage and sanitation infrastructure in schools, health centres, markets and public places, as well as solid-waste management; community mobilisation, sanitation, hygiene education and environmental awareness; institutional support for a water and sanitation utility; the development of a comprehensive national rural water supply and sanitation programme; and project management.
