Sukari Q1 output in line with expectations
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – In line with expectations, gold production at dual-listed Centamin’s Sukari mine, in Egypt, decreased by 16% quarter-on-quarter to 108 233 oz of gold in the first quarter of this year.
CEO Andrew Pardey noted that lower production was expected for the first half of this year, as mining progressed through the upper portions of the next stage of openpit development.
“The operation is well placed to meet our full year forecast of 420 000 oz, as openpit grades are scheduled to progressively increase to the reserve average in the second half of the year, when production is expected to return to annualised rates exceeding 450 000 oz,” he added.
Meanwhile, the process plant achieved throughput of 2.48-million tons in the first quarter.
“Plant productivity for the quarter remained at around the ten-million-ton-a-year nameplate capacity rate and there remains scope for further increases in throughput during the coming quarters as optimisation continues,” said Pardey.
