StratMin sees March surge in graphite output, sales
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Graphite producer StratMin Global Resources has substantially lifted month-on-month production volumes from its Madagascar operations, increasing February output of wet graphite to 528 t, from 360 t in February.
The Aim-listed group said in a production and sales update on Monday that production volumes had improved as a result of increased efficiency at the plant, while recovery levels had increased significantly as a result of improved feed rates and flow management through the flotation cells.
The grades of the larger flake sizes, at between 90% and 92%, remained higher than that of the smaller flake sizes.
The company sold 215 t of graphite in March, compared with 150 t in February.
StratMin added that its new mill had been installed and limited test runs had been performed. Development of the mill was ongoing with the plant flowsheet near to reaching increased grades, particularly in the smaller flakes.
“The new screen has been installed and drying and screening are now a continuous cycle. Commissioning issues resulted in drying capacity being temporarily restricted, but the dryer is now functioning to design capacity. The company expects to process the remaining wet graphite within April without delaying production,” it stated.
