Name and Location
Strand and Adderley street intersection rehabilitation project, Western Cape, South Africa.

Client
City of Cape Town.

Project Description
The road surface and base above the Strand and Adderley street concourse is at least 30 years old and have to be rehabilitated, as the existing asphalt surfacing at this intersection is cracked, old and brittle. As a result of the cracked road surface, water is leaking through the road onto the concourse deck, which has no waterproofing, and into the pedestrian and retail space below. The project will remove the existing asphalt in the intersection above the concourse. This will be followed by waterproofing to be applied and for the road surface to be replaced with a new layer of asphalt. Construction will be undertaken in phases.

Value
Implementation cost of the project will be an estimated R24-million to implement.

Duration
Completion will be in late August.
