JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Straits Resources has suspended operations at its Indonesia-based Mt Muro gold project, following a clash between police and illegal miners on June 29.

This had resulted in damage to site infrastructure, predominantly buildings.

As a precaution, the majority of Straits’ personnel had been evacuated from the mine until the Indonesian Police Mobile Brigade could confirm that security had been restored.

The company said in a statement that the situation was currently “calm” and confirmed that no employees had been injured.

Straits executive chairperson Andre Labuschagne was currently en route to the site to assess the situation and liaise with the company’s local management team and personnel.
