There is still a gap when matching technical skills and graduates and this plays a key factor when graduates straight from varsity seek employment. The STEM Conference & Career Expo intends to connect Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) graduates with opportunities to help them take their first step in their STEM careers.

Johannesburg- Graduates and final year students, who are searching for jobs, have never had to look forward to meeting and engaging with blue chip corporate companies face-to-face. However, this July, the STEM Conference & Career Expo will bring corporate, mining, finance and technology companies that support students and graduates in STEM.

High school students doing their matric will have the opportunity to learn about different career paths they can take in the STEM industry. A high school student may say they want to study Science or Engineering in varsity, but when they get to varsity they may not exactly know about career paths they can take within Science or Engineering.

Hence, at the STEM Conference & Career Expo, they will be exposed to various careers involved in STEM so they can make better informed career choices.

“Students and graduates who want to pursue careers in STEM can look forward to gaining some tools from real life experiences of former STEM students who are now professionals” said Eric James Wright, CEO STEM Conference & Career Expo, event organisers.

“We believe that by bringing graduates and students together in one room with top companies that are looking to offer internships, bursaries and scholarships. This is done in an effort to bridge the gap between technical skills and employment opportunities”.

One of the activities that attendees can get excited about is our HR Speed Dating Sessions, where final year students and graduates will spend five minutes with HR executives from participating companies. This engagement opportunity requires one to book a VIP ticket for fast track entry”, he said.

“We also want to encourage STEM based entrepreneurship and to highlight the benefits of having a STEM degree and that you can do anything with a STEM degree” he added.

The date for the STEM Conference & Career Expo: 27-28 July 2018

Venue: Ticketpro Dome, Blue Wing
