South Atlantic Cable System, Angola and Brazil
Name and Location
South Atlantic Cable System (SACS), Angola and Brazil.
Client
Angola Cables.
Project Description
The project involves the construction of the world’s first submarine cable system across the South Atlantic.
The SACS will connect Angola and Brazil, directly linking the African continent to Latin America for the first time and enabling high-speed and high-capacity international data transmissions, spurring trade and economic growth.
The SACS will feature the latest high-quality four-fibre pair cable and optical transmission technologies, with an initial design capacity of 40 Tb/s.
The cable system will end at Sangano cable landing station, in Angola, near the capital city of Luanda, and in a data centre in Fortaleza, Brazil, which will be built for the cable systems that are under construction by Angola Cables.
Value
The total investment is estimated at $160-million.
Duration
Construction of the SACS is expected to begin before the end of the year.
The system is targeted to be ready for service during the fourth quarter of 2016.
