French solar company Urbasolar has been selected as the developer and operator of the project following a competitive tender process run by Burkina Faso State-owned power utility La Société National D’électricité Du Burkina Faso, or Sonabel.

The project involves the construction of a 30 MW solar PV plant.

The plant will receive 80% of its funding requirement from the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund), which is a member of the Private Infrastructure Development Group). Urbasolar will provide the remaining 20% of the project’s capital.

The project is expected to take 18 months to build.
