Sierra Nevada mourns the passing of director
ASX-listed Sierra Nevada Gold (SNX) has reported the passing of nonexecutive director David Ransom over the past weekend. Ransom, who joined the board in January 2024, was a highly respected figure in the mining industry, with a career that spanned more than 45 years.
“Dave was a legendary figure of our industry and an outstanding nonexecutive director for SNX and his humility, inclusiveness and professional excellence stood out over a career,” says executive chairperson Peter Moore.
“SNX was privileged and grateful to have had such an eminent and distinguished industry figure such as Dave on its board, and he will be sorely missed by all of us at SNX.
Ransom’s contributions were deeply valued within SNX and across the broader resources sector. Moore noted that his presence on the board brought not only expert insight but also a personable nature that resonated with colleagues.
“Dave’s good nature and expert contribution to SNX both personally and professionally is a great loss to all at SNX, as well as the wider resources industry in Australia and internationally.”
In the wake of Ransom’s passing, Sierra Nevada has appointed its chief geologist Brett Butlin to its board to replace Ransom. Butlin has more than 25 years’ experience in minerals exploration for a variety of commodities and was chief geologist for Citadel Resources delineating the Jabal Sayid copper deposit in Saudi Arabia which was eventually sold to Barrick in 2010.
