Multipurpose shipping line SafmarineMPV has announced that it will expand its US to West Africa cargo, break-bulk and container services to include Congo and Angola to strengthen its footprint.

The group, which moved key staff and responsibilities from Antwerp, in Belgium, to Houston, in the US, in 2013, will start the monthly service on March 26 with the departure of the Safmarine Linyati 15002 from Houston.

The new SafmarineMPV USA–WAF service includes regular ports of call in Houston, Tin Can/Lagos, Onne, Pointe Noire and Luanda/Sonils, with the option for ad hoc inducement calls to handle special project cargoes at other West African ports, SafmarineMPV commercial director for the US–West Africa service Randy Jameson reports.

“Our expansion into the southern range of western Africa is in response to the growing needs of our customer base, who require faster transit times and direct sailings to the key ports in the region,” he says, concluding that the service extension has been discussed with a number of key customers active across various end-markets and their response and initial cargo support has been “very positive”.
