Sedgman awarded $134m EPC contract
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Guyana Goldfields has awarded project house Sedgman a $134-million engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract at its flagship Aurora gold project, in Guyana.
Early site work at Aurora started in January, and the project was expected to reach commercial production by mid-2015. The mine was expected to produce about 3.29-million ounces of gold, averaging 194 000 oz/y for a mine life of 17 years.
The Aurora gold project has total proven and probable reserves of 3.48-million ounces and a total gold measured and indicated resource of 6.54-million ounces, as well as an additional 1.82-million ounces in the inferred category
The EPC contract included the construction of a 1.75-million-tonne-a-year processing plant, power station and integration management.
Sedgman CEO and MD Nick Jukes said that the contract award was a significant win for the company, given the current market conditions.
