Name and Location
Sechaba energy project, Botswana.

Client
Shumba Coal.

Project Description
The project involves the development of a 300 MW coal-fired power plant at Shumba Coal’s Sechaba coal project.

Based on the conceptual study on the project, the power plant is envisaged to be configured as a two 150 MW circulating fluidised bed coal-fired power plant. The configuration was chosen, owing to suitability of unit size to the Botswana grid and redundancy offered by the configuration.

Further, the power plant is expected to consist of a subcritical nonreheat steam turbine with dry air-cooled condenser technology. Sulphur oxide (SOx) control will be achieved by in situ SOx capture by limestone dosing in the boiler furnace. Particulate matter control will be achieved with electrostatic precipitators. Nitrogen oxide control is achieved inherently in circulating fluidised bed boilers by virtue of their low operating furnace temperatures.
