Sebata acquires controlling stake in Amanzi Meters
MicroMega Holdings subsidiary Sebata Municipal Solutions has acquired 51% of South African water management and metering products manufacturer Amanzi Meters.
Sebata, a provider of integrated technology solutions, enterprise management systems and professional services to municipalities, public entities and provincial governments, said the acquisition would enable it to offer its clients a water management solution to limit water losses.
MicroMega CEO Greg Morris explained that this was in line with the group’s strategy of expanding its information technology group of companies.
“Local municipalities and utilities are facing extensive water losses and are now turning to smart metering, automated meter reading and prepaid meters to recover some of these losses.
“Accordingly, a requirement of local government for 2014 is to cut water losses by half. Through this acquisition, Sebata now offers a domestic water management solution that aims to assist municipalities in meeting this arduous task,” he commented.
Sebata MD Dylan Strydom added that the acquisition would allow Sebata to provide water management systems offering smart meter readings with prepaid functionality, leak detection and real-time control.
“Amanzi locally manufactures water meters, water meter boxes and water management devices, which makes it particularly attractive to Sebata, as the majority of these products are still made outside the country,” he said.
This resulted in expensive water management products, which may not necessarily suit the South African market.
“Furthermore, local manufacturing ensures that Sebata can now control the whole value chain, ensuring our products are competitively priced and thereby meet our clients’ specific needs,” he commented.
