Name of the Project
Seagreen 1 offshore wind farm.
Location
The project is located 27 km from the coastline, in Scottish waters of the UK North Sea.
Project Owner/s
SSE Renewables.
In June 2020, Total entered into an agreement with SSE Renewables to acquire a 51% stake in the project for an upfront payment at closing of £70-million and earn-outs up to £60-million in aggregate, subject to performance conditions. The purchase agreement also covers a potential extension opportunity of up to 360 MW.
Project Description
The project involves the construction of Scotland’s biggest offshore wind farm with a capacity of 1 140 MW.
The project is designed to cover the energy needs of about one-million homes.
Phase 1 includes the development of the Seagreen Alpha and Seagreen Bravo wind farms.
Potential Job Creation
The project is expected to create 410 jobs a year.
Capital Expenditure
The project is estimated at £3.7-billion.
Planned Start/End Date
Construction started in the first quarter of 2020 and is expected to start producing renewable electricity from the end of 2022.
Latest Developments
The project has simultaneously reached a final investment decision and financial close.
